Used Cars is a all-caps unicase font that was created in a one-day exercise and is inspired by a hand-painted sign hanging at the Route 5 and 35 Auto Repair shop in Dayton, Maine. Starting with only a few letters the rest of the capitals were deduced to match the high-contrast, extra-wide, closely spaced style. That style is also great for logos—evoking legacy and technology.

Midshipman is sampled from the handwriting of John M. Funck, Master’s Mate on the U.S.S. Constitution. He was in charge of keeping the frigate’s Watch and Quarter Bill from 1808 to 1810; a detailed list of all crew and their stations in sailing and during combat. This document, made avaible by The Internet Archive, was the primary source for this typeface.
Midshipman is a connected script that also includes initial forms for lowercase words. It also includes some archaic features which come directly from the source material, including an initial ‘long s’ and the lack of distinction between Capitals ‘I’ and ‘J.’

Flamig Farm in West Simsbury, Connecticut, is famous for their produce, friendly farm animals, as well as an immense artpiece on their barn that features an all caps “EGGS,” reversed. The conspicous, columnar, capitals persist due to the clever design choice to mirror the word. This allows it to be an artpiece, rather than a road sign with its own legal requirements.
This font pays homage to that locally historic design choice by including a reversed style to recreate the iconic look, alongside an unreversed style for normal text.

Numis was born out of a coin collecting hobby. A quick survey of coins from the late medieval to modern periods to today led to this unicase design. The rounded corners and smoothed edges are meant to evoke a the slightly worn letterfaces found on old coins; a process that tends to bolden the text before being rubbed away completely.

Jorge Mano is inspired by the Argentine poet and author Jorge Luis Borges and the very unique hand he developed in the late 1920’s. ‘Su letra de insecto,’ as he called it, was a tight, but charactistically legible, print hand with extreme ascenders and descenders. According to Celeste Martin it was his 3rd distinct style and last before his vision began to deteriorate.
